The NFL season kicks off in just five super bowl jerseys days. But the return of pro football also means a new installment of NFL Films' Emmy Award-winning series, America's Game.
One night before they host the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, the New York Giants and their fans will have one final chance to relish their Super Bowl XLVI triumph when America's Game: 2011 New York Giants debuts Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
The series, which has documented all 46 Super Bowl-winning teams, typically features three key figures from the club -- usually players and maybe the head coach -- and their recollections of discount nba jersys the respective title season.
However the latest version, which has Alec Baldwin reprising the narrator role, features four mean -- QB Eli Manning, DE Justin Tuck, WR Victor Cruz and Head Coach Tom Coughlin -- rather than three. It also marks return appearances from Manning and Coughlin, who were also spotlighted on America's Game: 2007 New York Giants even though NFL Films has typically sought to avoid repeat subjects.
That rule was easier to apply when the first 40 episodes began rolling out en masse in 2006. The past six chapters have been released in conjunction with the start of the regular season. And NFL Films producer Steve Lucatuorto says (probably rightly so) it would've been awfully tough to give the definitive record of the 2011 Giants' season without the insights of the quarterback and coach.
Having experienced the NFL Films treatment before might have even benefited Coughlin and Manning.
"I think Coughlin is even more likable in this (episode), and Eli is too," says Lucatuorto. "I think Eli's getting more used to being in the spotlight and is getting comfortable being a superstar.
"And Tom has balanced old 'Tyrant Tom' with a more likable Tom."
This America's Game may not stack up quite as well with the 2007 episode simply because it lacks the outsized personality of former defensive captain Michael Strahan, who offered some hilarious thoughts on Manning four years ago.
But that isn't to say this isn't another excellent production, in part because the content cheap pro bowl jerseys is bolstered by some behind-the-scenes clips provided by the Giants' video department.
And cheap hockey jerseys Lucatuorto, who conducted all four interviews off camera, manages to get the interviewees into the relaxed, chatty, reflective frame of mind that makes the series great.
"I think they trust us as a company. They know us very well," he opined. "We're not there to stir up controversy ... (and) they tend to be a bit more relaxed."
Tuck's interview actually lasted more than three hours and includes some of the personal tribulations that made the season especially difficult for him.
It takes that kind of time commitment to cull the memories that will keep the series topical even as its re-runs loop interminably into the future.
"It's harder now because guys aren't as nostalgic two or three months (after) the Super Bowl as guys who won it in the '70s," Lucatuorto, a 13-year vet at NFL Films, says when comparing the first 40 episodes to the six recent ones while also lamenting that social media and the internet make it far more difficult to unearth never-revealed nuggets.
But he adds: "These were really four of the nicest guys you'll meet and among the four best interviews I've ever conducted."
