As he begins his 15th NFL season, one of the things Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey has become accustomed to is change.
And that includes two of the significant changes in the team's defense already in this offseason — the loss of defensive end Elvis Dumervil and the addition of cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Bailey called Dumervil's release, and eventual signing by the Ravens, "a prime example cheap nfl jerseys of how this business works."
"Being in Elvis' shoes, I kind of understood where he came from as far as wanting to sign somewhere else," Bailey said. "I respect his decision. I wish we could have found a way to keep him. It just didn't work out that way."
Bailey said the team's roster is far better positioned to deal with Dumervil's loss than it was in 2010, when the team finished last in virtually every major defensive category when Dumervil missed the season with a torn pectoral muscle.
Back then we didn't have a lot of good players like cheap NCAA jersys we have now," Bailey said. "I think we have wholesale nfl jerseys way more capable players than we did then. But there's nobody else like Elvis. He was one of our captains. So we obviously lose one of our leaders ... but we've got to move forward."
Bailey said he believes Rodgers-Cromartie, who struggled in his two seasons with the Eagles, can regain his Pro Bowl form of 2009.
"I know what he's capable of. Talking to some of his old coaches and teammates, we got a special talent," Bailey said. "I look for him to do good things."
More the merrier.Add a receiver who has 672 receptions over the past six years into an offense and it's cheap nfl jerseys bound to have an impact on how things get distributed. But Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas said Wes Welker's presence can help everyone's output.
"I knew when he was coming in that I would probably get more one-on-one coverage, so I was kind of cheap soccer jerseys excited, actually, because with that guy, and (Eric) Decker, and two great tight ends, it's going to be hard to double-team somebody," Thomas said. "So, I think it will help me out and help the team out.
"He's one of the best in the game at what he does at the slot position. I think he can bring something in for us and help us out on the offensive side of the ball."
Bounce back.Bailey has spoken with Broncos safety Rahim Moore plenty since the season-ending loss to the Ravens this past January. And Bailey said Moore will have no difficulty recovering from the game.
Moore was late in coverage and misplayed the pass that Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones caught to tie game at 35-35 in the closing seconds.
"I don't think it affected him as much as people think," Bailey said. "He got so much better. ... I can't wait to see him improve this year."
Footnotes. The Broncos opened the first portion of their offseason workouts Monday. By league rules, teams can conduct conditioning work or injury rehab only during the "Phase I" portion. After two weeks, teams can open "Phase II" for three weeks, which allows players to receive individual instruction in drills, but no full offense-vs.-defense work. "Phase III" then includes all organized team activities and one mandatory minicamp. These workouts can include full offense-vs.-defense work, but pads cannot be worn in any of the offseason work and helmets can be worn only in Phase III. ... Quarterback Peyton Manning said he hoped there is a chance Brandon Stokley could return to the team, "In a perfect world, I'd like both (Welker and Stokley) to be on the team this year." ... The NFL had planned to release its schedule Tuesday, but it has been delayed while details are worked out. The Broncos are expected to open at home Thursday, Sept. 5 against the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. _________________ discount football jerseys |
