What have you done for me, lately?
You’ve probably heard that line before, whether it’s in a Janet Jackson song or during one of the funniest stand-up comedy shows ever, Eddie Murphy — “Raw.” Man, what happened to him? I don’t know about you, but I’d like to see more of his stand up and a lot less of “The Adventures of Pluto Nash” or “Dr. Dolittle.”
The reason I brought up this quote is that it’s exactly the reason you could end up stealing Tony Romo in your fantasy draft. The last time we saw the Cowboys quarterback, he was writhing in pain on the Jerry Dome turf after taking a shot from Giants LB Michael Boley. Romo fractured his clavicle and was done for the season.
While he was sidelined, a number of other quarterbacks were putting up huge numbers. Aside from the superstars like Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning, guys like Michael Vick, Josh Freeman, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco and Ben Roethlisberger were finding success. Even Matt Cassel lit it up with 27 touchdowns.
As a result, the depth at the quarterback position exploded.
All the while, we heard little about Romo (other than that he had gotten engaged to Miss Missouri, Candice Crawford). You have to respect a man who cheap football jerseys upgrades over Jessica Simpson!
Lately, though, we’ve been hearing some positive reports about Romo that actually have something to do with his football career. The reports that he’s on target for the 2011 season. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson has been impressed with Romo’s mechanics, despite missing so cheap nfl jerseys much time with the ailment.
“He’s throwing great,” Wilson said. “His delivery and velocity and revolutions and all that stuff is really, really good.”
That’s great news, both for Cowboys fans and fantasy leaguers alike. It also make Romo a potentially great draft value. With so many other signal-callers developing into viable fantasy starters over the last year, Romo won’t necessarily be considered one of the game’s elite options.
But if we project the numbers he posted in 2010 (five full games) cheap authentic jerseys over a full season, Romo would have finished with more fantasy points than Tom cheap nba jerseys Brady. Looking ahead, he also has the advantage of the most with games against the Redskins (2), Seahawks, Cardinals, Patriots and Lions, to name a few. He also has a ridiculous number of weapons at his disposal, including future star Dez Bryant.
So while everyone else is taking Rodgers and Vick in Round 1 or grabbing Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers in Rounds 2-4, I’ll be sitting back and waiting to pounce on Romo in the high middle stanzas.
